Recycling News

For those of you that have not heard, the Wakefield City Council voted to renew the Waste Management Trash contract without adding Curbside Recycling.  So now the clock is ticking for the Recycle Trailer’s continued operation.  I am still looking and hoping for a volunteer to come forward and take over the management and operation of the Recycle Trailer.  That person should be physically fit enough to lift and carry piles of cardboard, and climb stairs with their arms full.  If you, or someone you know, might be interested in taking over the operation and management of the Recycling Trailer, PLEASE contact the City Building at 461-5886.  My last day to open the trailer will be April 13th and the hours will remain the same as they are now; 1000-1200 through that final Saturday.

For those residents that have stopped and talked to me about the loss of the Recycling Program, I want you to know that I am sad to see it stopped.  We have such an AWESOME recycling program in our town that it will be a shame to lose it.  However, like so many things that happen in our small town, it takes someone to volunteer their time and efforts to make it run.  I’ve had several suggestions about how to keep the trailer going, but none of them include someone taking over the operation.  There are still 3 weeks before I will have to step down, so I continue to have hope.

It has been exciting to watch the growth of this small town’s interest and participation in recycling, and it has been my pleasure to be a part of that process.  I would like to say thank you to all of my volunteer assistants over these past three years, and also thank you to all of the people that stop by on Saturdays and have become a part of my life.  I will miss you all!
